Seize the Light Fundraiser

On June 21, 2025, VANSPC hosted its third annual 12-hour event. Seize The Light 2025 raised money for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, a facility which assists women who live in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Collective members and other photographers worldwide took part, this year raising $3,190, all of which was donated to the centre. 

How a 12-hour event works: photographers post to Instagram one photo each hour, taken during that hour, over a 12-hour block of time, tagging each with #VanSPC_12Hr25. Photographers choose their own block of time. 

The five photographs seen here were chosen from the many resulting posts by VANSPC moderators. They will be printed by Rocket Reprographics, a downtown Vancouver company which generously donated this service. The prints will go to the Centre, which will include them as items in its annual silent auction. 

 STL 2025 in numbers

• 31 photographers participated, 19 of them VANSPC members

• More than 250 street photos were posted to Instagram on June 21, 2025

• Photographers from 10 countries took part 

• $3,190 raised, all of which will go to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre. 

• Additional funds will be raised from the sale of the five prints at DEWC's next silent auction
