Seize the Light Fundraiser to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre

On Saturday, June 22, 2024, we came together for SEIZE THE LIGHT, VanSPC's 12-hour street photography fundraiser dedicated to supporting the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre in Vancouver, Canada.

Participants from all over the world were encouraged to set their own 12-hour window within the 24-hour period, starting at any time between 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM local time. The event saw enthusiastic involvement from nine countries, showcasing a variety of perspectives and photographic styles. Each participant contributed their unique vision to the collective effort, turning their lens towards their local streets and communities.

Throughout this 24 hour period, participants captured their cities, documenting the life and energy on the streets with their cameras. The photographs reflected diverse perspectives and unique moments, all united by a common purpose: to support the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, which provides vital services to women in one of Canada's most vulnerable communities.

The response to the fundraiser was overwhelming. We successfully raised $2250, which will go a long way in helping DEWC continue its essential work. As well, Rocket Reprographics donated 5 selected prints from the event (featured here below).

SEIZE THE LIGHT was more than just a photography event; it was a testament to the impact that a passionate community can make when they come together. The funds raised will help provide resources and support to women in need, making a tangible difference in their lives.
